Salbutamol inhaler supply

Introduction

What is a Ventolin Asthma Evohaler and how does it work?

Ventolin Evohaler is an inhaled medication used to treat patients with breathing difficulties including asthma. It contains an ingredient called salbutamol sulfate, which belongs to a group of medicines called fast acting bronchodilators that make it easier for the air to move in and out of the lungs.

It relieves the symptoms of asthma such as tightness in the chest, wheezing and coughing and can prevent asthma attacks brought on by exercise and other triggers such as cigarette smoke, dust, pollen, cats and dogs.

Ventolin contains the propellant HFA 134A, which is less harmful to the environment than the propellants in other inhalers.

Ventolin dosage & Proper use

You can use Ventolin at any time during the day, with or without food. To relieve asthma, one or two puffs should be sufficient while one or two puffs 10-15 minutes before exposure to a trigger or exercise should prevent an attack.

For regular treatment of asthma, take two puffs four times a day.

  • Stand or sit up straight
  • Shake the inhaler 4-5 times
  • Breathe out completely
  • Seal your lips around the mouthpiece of the inhaler
  • Push the canister pump while taking a deep, slow breath through your mouth
  • Hold your breath as long as possible to allow the active ingredient to be absorbed by your body
  • Repeat as needed after waiting 30 seconds

Ventolin is a fast-acting medicine, reversing airway obstructions within 5 minutes and lasting about 4-5 hours. Do not take more than 8 puffs in a 24-hour period.

Is Ventolin a steroid?

No, Ventolin is not a steroid. The active ingredient salbutamol belongs to a group of medicines called bronchodilators that relieve the symptoms of asthma, relaxing the airways and making it easier to breathe. It does not treat the inflammation that is the underlying cause of asthma.

Ventolin Side Effects

Side effects of Ventolin usually affect one in ten people.

Side effects include:

  • increased heart rate sometimes felt as palpitations
  • muscle tremor (shaking, especially in the hands)
  • slight feelings of anxiety or nervousness

These effects pass quickly and are less likely to occur after the medication has been used a few times. They may occur when you take higher doses of the medication, such as during an asthma emergency.
