Treclin is an antibacterial gel for topical use on the skin. The gel contains two active ingredients: Tretinoin: a medicine that stimulates cell division in the epidermis, and Clindamycin, an antibiotic that kills certain bacteria on the skin.

What is Treclin?

Treclin is an antibacterial gel for topical use on the skin. The gel contains two active ingredients:

These two ingredients combined help combat impurities, allowing the skin to heal. Treclin is a prescription-only medicine.

What is Treclin used for?

Treclin is used to treat acne, a skin condition that manifests itself through greasy skin, clogged pores, pimples, blackheads and subcutaneous infections. The gel kills the bacteria causing the infection, which helps eliminate the symptoms. In addition, Treclin increases the turnover of skin cells in the epidermis, opens clogged pores and prevents new acne from forming.

How to use Treclin

Apply the gel gently with your fingertips to clean, dry skin. Use a very small amount the size of a pea. Take care to avoid getting the gel in the eyes or inside the nostrils or mouth. Wash your hands immediately after use. It may take a while for the benefits of Treclin gel to appear. Do not stop using it even if your symptoms improve. The doctor will tell you how long you need to use this medicine.

Dosage

Adults and children aged 12 and above: a thin film to the affected areas twice daily, preferably before bedtime.

This medicine is not suitable for use in children under the age of 12.

Side effects 

Treclin may cause side effects, although some people may not experience any. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine:

• Skin irritations (itching, scaling, burning sensation, red patches or dryness) at the application site;
• Temporary worsening of symptoms.
• Consult a doctor if you get diarrhoea while using this medicine or experience other severe or persistent side effects.

When not to use Treclin

Treclin is not suitable for everyone and should not be used if:

• You are allergic to tretinoin, clindamycin or related lincomycin antibiotics, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
• You are pregnant or trying to conceive.

Consult a doctor on the use of this medicine if you have Crohn’s disease or another inflammatory bowel disease. Treclin may interact with certain medicines. Be sure to inform the doctor of any medicines you are taking when you order to make sure that the combination is safe.

Pregnancy/driving ability/alcohol

Treclin may be harmful to a developing baby. It should therefore be avoided during pregnancy or in women planning a pregnancy. Women taking this medicine should use a method of birth control during and for one month after using this medicine. This medicine should not be used by breastfeeding women, unless the doctor advises otherwise. This medicine does not interact with alcohol or affect your ability to drive safely.
